Does anyone have an archontophoenix cunninghamiana (the "piccabeen palm") in Florida 9b/10a?

I feel like I hardly ever see any pics or posts about these in Florida. Do they not grow well in this climate? I know they do well in CA. They're supposed to be hardier than foxtails, so I was thinking of trying some in my 9b climate. But if they will just look stressed then maybe not.

Another red chambeyronia leaf

Another chambeyronia throwing another leaf while some other ones are developing even larger and brighter red they never stop being beautiful having the advantage of living on a hillside I planted many of my chambeyronia at the bottom of the garden so in the future they would be tall enough to view looking through the trees so my tip is plant your chambeyronias at the bottom of a hill or garden if you live on steep block of land 25 years time you will get a great garden show

Need help with identification

Hello, I just bought a house in Rockport, Texas (on the coast). The yard is full of different plants and trees that I want to learn how to take care of. I haven't been able to identify the palm in the photo, I used two different plant ID applications, one came back with a California Fan Palm and another with Chinese Fan Palm. I would very much appreciate if someone could help with identification. It clearly needs help but I have no idea how to take care of it, so any pointers would be welcomed. It's a beautiful palm and I'm happy to have it on the property, so I definitely want to keep it healthy. If I can develop a green thumb there's room for more palm…

Bismarck Root System and Septic Drainfield

Bismarck Palm Septic tank / drain field question Hello! I’m not sure if this is the correct place to post this. I just got my septic tank cleaned and I was unaware of where the drain field is located (I was told differently by previous home owner) This septic cleaning guy told me he believes it is in the front of the house. My question is : is this Bismarck Palm dangerous for the drain field? He told me he thinks it’s fine, but I’m worried. Any thoughts? Pics provided The left circle is the tank, right circle is the distribution box then he said he thinks the drain field is there to the right and the Bismarck is on the right side

Repotting some Kerriodoxa elegans

It’s always fun when you have to repot some Kerriodoxa such a great joy watching them grow from germinating the seed to repotting at various stages of plant growth I would say a moderately easy palm to grow but not without some problems that you can work out but always fun working with such a beautiful palm I did come across one seedling that has split in two making for a interesting individual palm one day perhaps in the garden

My husband and I planted two Adonidia palms and two Pygmy date palms in our backyard in Dunedin Florida. Two Adonidia and one Pygmy date were planted 3 months ago and the other Pygmy one month ago. Our soil is not the greatest, mainly sand, but the nursery told us that we did not need to amend the soil saying it was better to plant in native soil. I’m thinking it was a mistake. We have one of each type on the right side of our yard which is always in full sun and the other two are currently getting morning shade but will soon be full sun The pictures below are the plants that are in full sun. These are the worst of the 4 palms however, the other Adonidia is s…

Palm ID's

I have collected lots of unusual stuff from Jeff Marcus. Many times by the time they are big enough to go in the ground the tags have lost their name. I'd enjoy knowing what some of these sweet little ones are. Palms 2, 3 and 4 seem to be clumpers, 1 is solitary .

Coconut palms on Socotra Island
by JohnInBhutan- 0 replies

Socotra Island, off the coast of Somalia and Yemen, but part of Yemen has no indigenous palms. Phoenix dactilifera have been cultivated there for at least 1000 years, since human settlement of Socotra (only 50,000 people live on Socotra, an island about 80 miles long and 40 miles wide). P. dactilifera are cultivated and numerous around all the villages. Only other palm I've ever seen is Cocos nucifera and only a handful of these. On my last visit my friend Marwan (in photo) who knows of my interest in palms took me to family plot where these coconuts growing. Story he told me was that 30 years ago someone told his grandfather this could be good cash crop, so they planted …

Dilemma of choosing a spot for outplanting
by Phoenikakias- 2 replies
My small garden is so crowded with plants, that even late Ralph Velez would probably get shocked by looking at it. Nevertheless there are two potted plants in my cold frame, which need a permanent spot outdoors. Those are a triple Foxtail, which is about to penetrate the ceiling of the cold frame and a Traveller's Palm, which has already consumed all space of its spot, so next action should be either potting up or out planting. There are two available spots in the garden, one with little space for the roots but exposed to full sun from say 10 am to sunset. It lies between a large Strelitzia reginae clump and a young Royal Palm. The other spot is ex…

One of my Queen Anne palms blew over in a recent wind event in Norcal. This was my smallest in the ground at about a foot diameter and 8 feet talk planted in the ground on my lawn area. I have it roped up against two other palms for now. how do I keep the tree propped until it grows strong enough to survive? I’m thinking about building a couple A frames around it. Should I pack some soil in around the exposed roots? Wrap Jute?

Help!

I just moved to a townhome that has two, approx 35 ft palms in the backyard. I know absolutely nothing about palm trees. I hired someone to come shave and trim the trees because it obviously had never been done. Once they shaved up to the top, they found 3 cracks in the trunk. I was told that the trees needed to be cut down and removed due to the cracks. Is this true? They seem so healthy, it feels like a waste ro cut them down. I have included a couple of pictures to help for reference.

verschaffeltia splendida disease or nutrient deficiency?

Hello palm lovers, please help me save this beauty. I've had it for a few years and it always had little random brown spots on it's leaves but now they've suddenly gotten damaged very quickly. It sits alongside 4 other exotic palms in the corner of my pool patio in Miami and the other 4 palms don't show any problems with their leaves. The newest leaf looks great, the second one has some brown spots starting, and the next 3 leaves are riddled with the brown damage. Would very much appreciate any advice. Thank you, Susan

Wodyetia advice
by Harry’s Palms- 1 follower

I picked up a few (5) Wodyetia Bifurcara palms from a local palm grower last year just before winter. I have 3 , 5 gal. And 2 , 3gal. They were not in the best of shape , two of them looked ok and the other three are marginal. None have died over the winter. They are still in their pots on the southwest side of my house under some nice canopy with dappled sunlight all day . I think the two will be good to plant soon as they are showing growth . I spear marked them when I brought them home. I have had two previous failures over the last 27 years that I lived here and still not sure what caused it. Two blocks from me a friend planted two and one survived, I am told they are…
