Med Fan Palms

I bought some Parajub. cocoides seed from Joseph and he sent me some complimentary seed of Chamaerops humilis. As fate and destiny would have it, the night before I was going through my palm pics with my grandaughter (2 years old wants more palm pics and now!). I came across Chamaerops humilis pics and thought "I need some of those". Next day they arrive. Praised be Joseph. So now they're all germinating, only a week from the soaking - how best to deal with them on a minimalist level (with a cracked rib)? Cheers n beers Jeff

Sick - CIDP and Livistona

Ive been trying to post pictures but apparently my pics are too large and the system won't allow it... I just have a normal HP camera, nothin fancy... Anyhow, I have a couple of palms that are not doing so hot! I asked questions previously about my Livistona Decipiens and got the reply that Livistonas are disease free and it had to be shock or something like that (all the fronds browned and dropped). However, I believe it to be some sort of fungus in the crown. As there are only 2 leaves/fronds left and they are rather shoty looking I thought I was in trouble. But then a new spear appeared (I got all excited), it got about 18 inches out of the trunk, began to open…

Palm species for Thailand
by dover56- 6 replies

Greetings Would like any information or comments regarding palms that would be suitable for the following area. 1. Island development around 80 acres. 2. Situated in Thailand. 3. Want "wow" factor immediately so am looking primarily at mature palms intermixed with less mature to fill gaps. 4. Want "deserted on a tropical island" type feel. Need species that can handle a reasonable amount of salt, can grow in both sand and soil areas, and that will provide fast growth initially with minimal maintenance, disease, insect troubles. The species we are looking at the moment are Royals, Kings, Foxtails, Coconuts, Beetle-nuts, Oil palms and Yellow palms. Are the…

A Greenhouse Question
by MattyB- 17 replies

I don't really know what forum to put this one in, but since I'll be growing palm trees in the greenhouse, I'll start it here. How many hours of direct sun does a greenhouse need? The only spot I have to put a greenhouse is a long but rather narrow swatch behind my garage. The west wall would have to be the garage's exterior wall, the east wall would be butted up against a 6' tall wood fence, the north, south, and roof could be transluscent panels. I'm estimating that the amount of hours that the sun will directly hit the roof will be 5-6. Is this a good spot for a greenhouse or do I need more hours of sun and more transluscent panels on all sides? Thanks for …

Did everything get dumped into cyber-space, or will we eventually have access to the other Boards history?
