Carpoxylon macrospermum
by ruskinPalms- 11 replies

Just looked on the frost/freeze data base and there is not too much info about this one. Anyone have any experience with this actually getting frosted or having it planted out when the temps went below freezing? Frost is always a greater concern than freeze where I live. It is tough to find nice tropical looking palms that can take frost on their fronds. Any info about this one is appreciated. Thanks.

Salacca magnifica in the garden
by Al in Kona- 18 replies
- 1.5k views
There was a thread some time ago on this palm started by Gina but if I remember correctly it got filled up with other plants (mostly Broms) so thought I'd start a new one. Gina, here is a pic I just took of my Salacca magnifica. Thought I'd share it with you and others. I do like this palm a lot despite the spines on it but you definitely want to be careful and not back into it, as I once did! lol

I'm a Palm Talk neophyte so I would like to bring up a topic that has probably been posted a million times already ... but it would be interesting to us new people and maybe a refresher for all you veterans! Or maybe you found some new faves! Please post a pic of your favorites!! (plus I'm too lazy to search through all those archives to find this topic!! )

Dypsis heteromorpha
by mppalms- 21 replies
- 3.7k views
I picked up a Dypsis heteromorpha this spring. Single-trunked now, about 2.5 ft. high and already beautiful with a hint of red at the base and thin leaflets. But, it is just now starting to send up a new spear. It has kind of sulked for a while. Is this palm slower than Dypsis baronii (which I would almost call fast) and onilahensis (which is picking up speed for me now)? Or, have I just failed in meeting its cultural requirements. At the moment, it's in a fairly deep pot. It will go into the ground once I sense that it might have some life in it. Jason

Can you identify this seedling?
by Gbarce- 22 replies
- 1.4k views
Am prettey sure its a palm but I dont Know what. I never planted anything here. Around this area of the garden we have royal palms, triangle palms and foxtail palms (but none of these have had flowers or seeds yet), Betel nut palms and a native Livistonia. At this stage in its development -this does not look like anything we have. I suspect the seed was probably dispersed through teh poop of some birds passing through.

big royal on kaua'i
by sonoranfans- 15 replies
- 1.2k views
I recently took a vacation to Kaua'i and was stunned at a big royal we saw, its easily over 50' tall and had a wide trunk. The drought in Hawai'i this year really did dry out some vegitation that was not irrigated. I will not post the pics of damaged palms, including some bismarckia and triangles that looked very bad indeed. Foxtails and royals seemed to fare much better in this drought. The wet north shore was much better than the south and east in this years dry for the non irrigated palms. Many of the healthy palms I saw were while driving some hairy roads on the north shore. Here is the big royal -at the kuai'i nursery just 6 miles west of Lihue- with my wife un…

Tillering Trachycarpus?
by iwan- 8 replies
Found this at a big-box store, labeled only Trachycarpus. I saw the heel, and realized something was wrong with that label, so I had to buy it. After doing a little searching, I am wondering if this is T. nanus or some other species/genus.

To Separate Or Not To Separate?
by Adam from Oz- 14 replies

Hi Guys, Decision making time. I put a sprouted P. torallyi into a deep citrus bag and it soon sprouted a twin. They are both happy and healthy. Knowing the size of these palms when grown, should I knock one off for the sake of the other or just plant the twins together? Cheers, Adam

Palm Beach Chapter Annual Palm Picnic
by TikiRick- 24 replies
- 1.7k views
The Palm Beach Chapter was graciously invited to the garden of Ruth Sallenbach in Lake Worth, Florida this past Saturday. This annual event has proven to be a great time with some folks from other Florida chapters as well (Central, Southwest, and South Florida was well represented!) It appears that most of the garden has recovered well from the record hurricane season of 2005, with many palms sporting the "(Hurricane) Wilma angle." Everyone enjoyed a self tour, meandering through the garden, and then sat down to chow on some great food for lunch. A fantastic auction followed lunch with some great specimen palms to benefit the Palm Beach Chapter treasury. Dypsis …

EZ-Flo Fertilizer Injector
by doubravsky- 27 replies

I found some reference to this product- looks like what I've been looking for as something that will inject the fertilizer directly into the drip line system. I recently switched from sprinklers to a drip line using 2 gph emitters and have been looking for something to limit the fertilizer to the area that is being watered. Anyone with experience? Panama

Has anyone grown palms in the Chiriqui Highlands in Panama (Boquete, Volcan) or have you visited there? The climate, rainfall, and soils seem near ideal at the appropriate elevation. Just curious if anyone has any thoughts about it as a location to start a palm garden.

Two more seeds sprouted!!!!
by metalfan- 3 replies
Sorry to be so silly but I am very excited! Two more seeds from the flat of seeds I had given up for dead on (before my little Chamaedorea plumosas sprouted up) have sprouted! These are Chamaedorea seifrizii. They popped out sometime last night apparently, as I checked the flat for any newcomers on Monday and they weren't apparent then. Hopefully more will follow suit! It makes me want to try more seeds now.

Hello friends. I put a pair of connections of photos of palms. To see if you like: http://www.infojardin.com/foro/showthread.php?t=54284 http://www.infojardin.com/foro/showthread.php?t=54268 Note: It was going to put the photos in this forum, but I have followed all the steps that taught to me, I have taken to the direction of image of photobuket (the one of down) and it does not let to me put them. For that reason I have put them in another forum and a connection for the friends whom they like to see them. :: Regards

Royal Bummer
by osideterry- 16 replies

I was given this royal last spring. It looked sickly and it's owner didn't want it. I thought I'd try to nurse it back to health. I've since repotted it with palm and cactus supersoil, and been using Apex PalmPlus and EpsoGrow. the leaves are looking greener, and it seems to be growing well. Then I pulled off a dead leafbase...
