Hi all,

For those that dont know me my name is Michael and I have just set up a new website for the New Zealand Palm and Cycad Society (PACSONZ). It has been up and running for 3+ months now and I thought it was time to list it here.

The site is focused mainly towards growing Palms in the climate of New Zealand, but has much more than that, and much more still to come when I have time to load it all up.

The only palm native to NZ is the Nikau palm (Rhopalostylis sapida) which many are familair with in one form or another. The site has little on Nikau as of yet, but stay tuned for LOTS of photos of these palms in habitat and private displays.

I will keep you posted...

The website link is below

Thanks.

Well the Nikau (Rhopalostylis) section is now online. It contains photos in habitat (and not) of Rhopalostylis sapida native to New Zealand. There is much more to come, but you can check out whats there so far by clicking here

Below is an odd pic to get you started :D

The PACSONZ website now has a New Plymouth page which can be found here

People have been asking me why there is no Auckland section in the 'Places to see palms and cycads' on the PACSONZ site. The Auckland section is under construction and should hopefully be on-line shortly. It contains a lot, and takes a long time to compile all the necessary photos and information.

Just wanted you to know that I've visited your site and it's pretty informative.  Thanks for your efforts!

May I suggest a page discussing the various growing climates in NZ with temperature ranges, humidity, rainfall, etc.?

Well its been over a year now and Im happy with the way our new website is going... I only wish I had more time to spend on it implementing the many things I still want online.

The New Zealand palm and cycad society also turns 25 this month and to celebrate a meeting was held at Landsendt in Auckland with a good turnout of past members and the palm growers of the future.

There is also a page celebrating the society's first 25 years which can be seen by clicking here.

I've been pretty busy of late, and have not added much new content to the site. There are plenty more habitat areas in New Zealand of Rhopalostylis sapida to go on the site... so stay tuned... until then here is a link to a long suffering R. sapida.
