PSSC meeting at Palm Island

Featured Replies

We had a great turnout at the meeting last Saturday.  I wanted to share some pics I took.

A rare Attalea that we planted weeks ago was unfortunately stolen before the meeting

WHAT???????

Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

I do some experiments and learning in my garden with palms so you don't have to experience the pain! Look at my old threads to find various observations and tips!

Dear JD  :)

iam very sorry to hear that the palm was stolen,

that was planted on the soil.iam unable to understand

as to where the earth is heading to.  :(

we have heard that gold, riches & valuables get

stolen under the cover of darkness.but even the palms

are having similar fate is truely baffeling.

and the chances are the stolen palm will not survive

if it was dug close or manhandled roughly.

as i have always kept saying gods greatest blunder

is creation of mankind ! this creature destroys all

the other creatures (all living beings).

the palm theft issue is one good example for the

above statement.

Thanks for informing what transpired ?

Love,

Kris.

It may have just died and been removed by the daily gardeners... I don't know for sure.  But, they have had palms stolen from the area before.  I guess I was speculating.  Any one else know about it?

JD

It had to have been stolen - it wouldn't have croaked within 2 weeks. Call me cynical, but it sounds like an inside job - who would steal something so small/nondescript unless they knew it was something special?

Too bad it didn't have lo-jack or something installed.....we could track it, find it, kill the perpatrator, then get it back!

a fine days work indeed!................

I know that sounds odd, but tracking devices in rare/expensive palms is not a bad idea.  Tracking devices are cheap, small and inconspicuous, a worthwhile expense I would say, for some plants at least..

just wait for the dirtbag to unload it on Ebay; or be on the lookout for someone with only one specimen of the species and no verifiable legitimate source - most growers buy in quantity

Well that just totally sucks! Where is Palm Island anyway? Have I been gone that long? None of your photos are showing up either.
