I was not sure where to put this, but I wanted to thank those who helped me pack up early to get home from Miami. A few people on here might know I had to leave early to get home because I got a call from my sister, saying that plants were missing and it looked like someone broke into the garage. I got to Fairchild late on Sunday and had to pack up to make it home that night to assess what had happened. I don't really want to go into detail, but some things of color were taken from my backyard, palm and otherwise.

When I mentioned this at the sale, a number of people helped me pack up my trailer, specifically Ron Kiefert (moose knuckle) and Jody Haynes (virtualpalm). They helped me drag cartloads of plants (thankfully I did not have many there), and refused to let me pay them. It is then you really see the unspoken bond between good plant people. Thanks Jody and Ron for helping, I owe you guys one in one shape or another. Also, protect your gardens - we tend to stand out in the landscape and some people have no concept of the time we put into them, they take out of pure greed.

On another note, if anyone sees someone selling a large Alcanteria "Merlot" for sale in the state, let me know, I would love to "buy" it back, as it was my favorite bromeliad. :) Everything else I can replace. I guess whoever decided to take things may have been aware of the normal level of security that is there when I am around.

The bright side is I did get a number of plants of size I wanted to put in the hard and got that done today, pictures to follow when I get a chance to catch up on work.

I do some experiments and learning in my garden with palms so you don't have to experience the pain! Look at my old threads to find various observations and tips!

For the Alcantarea, look for "Big purple pineapple-looking plant. Home Depot sells ones kinda like it for $20, but this one is just $10!"...

Hope they turn up.

Thanks guys, I really wanted to post this just to give a caution to those out there, and thank those who helped me. I would like to get back what was taken but I just don't see that happening, I guess I am a realist. :hmm: I have two full time security guards but they were with me when I was in Miami. Now they are with me so all is good. :winkie:

Thanks for the anecdote about palmfolk... I have had the same experience as well. For the most part we are all a decent bunch. :) Hate that I missed seein' ya'll this weekend. How did you do at the sale?

Sorry to hear about the stolen property, I read someone here once said something to the effect of, "The real shame is that stolen pink elephant will just keep growing bigger and bigger in their collection". Everyone gets their up and comins buddy, know that.
