Should I be worried about this Canary?

I have a large Phoenix near the front of my house with some kind of trunk injuries about midway up (see photos).  The tree was covered in Ivy when I purchased the house (6 years ago).  At that time the wounds weren't visible, but after removing the Ivy and old frond bases it became evident that the tree had sustained some kind of damage at some point in the past.

It almost looks like mechanical damage at some points and is isolated to one section about midway up the trunk.  Some of them look to be a few inches deep.  I've never had any problems but am worried about the potential for toppling onto the house!  We don't get hurricanes in California but winter does bring gusty winds at times.  Should I be worried?  The wounds haven't changed/expanded since I've owned the property.

The palm looks healthy for the most part, I am just not sure about how it will fair in the winds. If it becomes a concern maybe you can give extra support to the palm.

Ok, maybe by putting a guy wire anchored away from the house or something?  Not sure why I hadn't ever thought of that.  I'd hate to have to remove it, both for my sake and for the palm tree's sake!
