Donations appreciated for the new palm garden at Pine View School in Sarasota

I've started a palm garden on the Pine View School school campus (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pine_View_School) here is Sarasota. A couple of areas have been designated for it so far and I'm hoping that we can expand in the future. The school grounds are accessible to the public on weekends.

At this point I donated Sabal causiarum, S. mauritiiformis, S. uresana, Syagrus botryophora, S. cearensis, Livistona mariae subsp. rigida, Ptychosperma caryotoides and Attalea cohune and Ptychosperma waitianum that haven't been planted yet; and Keith (Zeeth) has donated Syagrus amara, Kentiopsis oliviformis, Jubaeopsis caffra, and a dwarf Coconut that hasn't been planted yet. The students do all the planting and once we have the labels made - they will be included in the student campus tours.

I will continue to be building up the collection and if anyone is willing to donate any palms for this new public garden - it would be greatly appreciated. Most needed are small and small-to-medium size palms that can handle sun for at least a portion of the day, but there is room in shade also and for a couple of medium-to-large size as well. I'm also trying to only plant palms that have a good chance of surviving and looking good in a Florida zone 10a. Nothing spinier that a Livistona, because of the kids playing in the area. The best fit would be Coccothrinax spp., Allagoptera spp., Gaussia spp., Guihaia spp., Dypsis spp., Ptychosperma spp., Rhapis spp., Chambeyronia macrocarpa, Burretiokentia hapala, Areca triandra, hardy Licuala spp., Normanbya normanbyi, others.

I have tons of seedlings that I would like to contribute to this wonderful project, but need to know if you are paying for shipping? Unfortunately I am not in a position to eat that cost.

Thanks for the offer Jude! We could work something out where you won't need to cover the shipping. How big are the seedlings? Are they ready to be planted?

Thanks for the offer Brad! Since you are relatively far, how big is it?

Hi,

They are still very small - and probably not ready to be planted - unless if you want to plant them and just let them do their thing.

Most are still single leaf, or two leaf seedlings in compost. I would offer larger plants, but they don't grow as fast inside, as their counterparts in warm places. (But this means I can ship a lot more to you.)

Let me know if I can help.

Thanks

Alex, I’m sure I have some larger material around the nursery to donate to my old school.    Great project!

Shelby, so sorry for not responding timely! I've been traveling internationally for work. Thank you so much for the offer!
