The germination process begins (July 26, 2018) for these two RPS species delivered today: Ceroxylon sasaimae and Chamaerops humilis 'Vulcano'.
I got one or more "bonus" seeds beyond ten of each. If I have success getting them to sprout I will likely donate a few of the C. sasaimae seedlings to the San Francisco Arboretum for their Ceroxylon collection (if they don't already have specimens).

Of the 10 Beccariophoenix alfredii seeds I got from RPS a few weeks ago, five have sprouted so far (i.e., 50% germination rate). :unsure:

Having bought seeds on and off for 10 years from RPS and other sources, I have a germination 'happiness rating scale' when buying 10 seeds.

1 - Puh! Still, I got one.

2 - Hmm.. I got two. Double the chances of survival!

3 - Yay! Triplets!

4 - Nice. (I might give the smallest one away :P)

5 - Hey, I'm pretty good at this gemination thing!

6 - Really, I got my money's-worth here.

7 - Do I need all these?

8 - I probably don't need all these.

9 - Hmm.. I wonder what's up with the last seed?

10 - Hey, are these Washingtonias!!??

John in Andalucia: Very good! Love your 'happiness rating scale'! My response is very similar. There are so many variables to consider when dealing with wild-collected seed, plus I have only a limited amount of growing space. So it doesn't take much to satisfy me. :rolleyes:

:greenthumb: ^^ This is great!  Here, under my current growing conditions, i might add:

* Barely survived the summer

** Survived both the summer and first winter ( seems easier to do than surviving the summer here )

*** Can the birds please stop adding dozens of Washingtonia to my com pots / everything else :bemused:, lol ..STILL picking out seedlings from last fall..  Brahea are welcome however :D

Here is my humble setup. I keep unsprouted community pots down below, then gradually move them upward for more light as they grow. Once they get too big for the top shelf, they go on the left where they grow until they must go outside (dypsis leptocheilos are there now in the pic, encephalartos also, and others). I have tons of stuff outside on the driveway in 1 gallon and large size pots.
