Some of you have gotten a few free seeds from me. Some of you have despaired from non sprouting seeds, mine and others’. Free and paid for.

Been there done that.

Here's my indoor ranch..

Ceroxylon quindiuense in my basement flat corridor to keep them cool. We're having a heatwave to rival the summer of '76!

I don't want to lose these, as a few of them are now destined for the new Temperate House at Kew.

Second shot is the remainder of the batch of Rhopalostylis baueri ‘Norfolk Is.’ that I shared on PalmTalk and the EPS. To the right are a few T. princeps

Dave, I've got absolutely thousands of seedlings and unfortunately they are all sitting under pine trees and waiting for the construction of two new shadehouses and one tunnel house. It's a complete and utter mess when the black cockatoos turn up and drop pine cones on everything. So I won't show you anything at present. I've just put in a 23000L water tank to take ground water and I'll use that as a settlement tank to take the iron out. I'll then pump from the clear water.  I've got to construct a 6.5m by 15m shadehouse and eventually another shadehouse in another area with just morning sun probably half the size for just cloud forest stuff and I have an area set aside for a plastic tunnel house 6.4 by 10m in a full sun area to grow on stuff that just wouldn't make it here from a small size and possibly for growing summer veggies in winter as well.

My biggest dilemma at the moment is with a few hundred Livistona alfredii seeds I was given. They all came up. I'm in winter and I germinated them in a plastic storage box near my wood fire. A lot are on their second leaf after putting the seed down 2 months ago. I need about 400 5L pots in a warm spot but I have neither. So I've put them on the back patio today so they get full sun but now they must deal with cold nights. I will keep the lid on for a couple of weeks then take it off after that and see what theyll do. They should be ok as they won't experience frost on my back patio but potting them up is going to be hell as they bury themselves deep and untangling them will end with casualties.

The nursery is a little smaller nowadays.

The first picture is a group of sabals I germinated from seeds I gathered last November.  The empty cup is from one that recently went in the ground.

A group of mostly phoenix theophrasti waiting to be planted out.  There is a syagrus romanzoffiana seedling and a few phoenix roebelenii seedlings in the picture.  The syagrus was from a seed I collected while out on a walk right before the advective freeze in January.  The roebies are volunteers that I pulled out without damaging.

Have a few other seedlings inc a Brahea sp.  (seed collected at Tohono Chul Park), Livistonia saribus, which may or may not make it out of here alive.. A handful of Zamia / Ceratozamia seedlings, and a mysterious, pinnate-type palm seedling which has survived out in the shade house. Sits directly across from some Crinums id seperated into 1gal. that melted in this weeks' heat ( they'll recover) It and my larger Kentiopsis O.  are the only Pinnate palms i have left.. everyone else is in Palm heaven...

** Note to anyone wondering... was planning to bump all out of their com pots ( most need it, some really need it ) but since i wasn't planning on being here this summer, let alone next year, i will wait.

This is my container ranch under shadecloth on the back lanai. Many of these palms/cycads are babies, some a bit bigger but all are shade loving tropicals. Many are also cold sensitive so have to stay on the lanai. I will post photos of my sun loving container garden but had foot surgery yesterday and am limping around on a cane and can't work outdoors in the heat/humidity.

Wow, some nice looking 'container ranches'!

Mine is an old dog kennel on a raised slab enclosed with chain link fencing. Add some shade cloth and voila!

(currently lacking the motivation to name everything......let's just say, 'lots of stuff'.)

The source of my palm seedling is from my garden. Every spring I go around the yard and pluck them out of the ground and pot them up for a few years and then give them away locally.
