Hey everyone i have sowed these 3 species. Actually and a bunch of fortunei. But the other 3 the info isn’t as available

There in baggies. Should they be outside in the shade so they get cool nights and warm days or in the house at room temperature? I’ve had them on some bottom heat for a week but think maybe that is wrong for these. Also chime in on fortunei I had them in my palm room but it is always 77 to 80f so today I put them outside in the shade. Too date have germinated everything g pretty much but a trachycarpus of any kind. Thanks everyone.

Latisectus is similar to other palms regarding germination requirements. Takil is a little tricky and if the seed isn't fresh you're in for a dissappinting result.  I am germinating another 1000 latisectus and 2500 takil right now.  Keep the takil soil out of the sun and cooler than you would most other palms.

Love to know your source of Trachycarpus oreophilus seeds. I thought they were almost impossible to get hold of these days?

For those of you that frequent Facebook, I’ve set up a group called “Pommy palms”, where many of the palms I’ve seen since emigrating to Australia have been documented. If you wish to be a member, copy and paste “Pommy palms” into Facebook to view the page and click “Join group”.

I was going to ask the same but I'm afraid those seeds could be too old or not the real deal.

Got them from seedman.com. They just came available around the time I bought them a few weeks ago. I always check that site cause the species does change quite a bit so we will see what happens

Thanks for the link. I've just bought some of the Trachycarpus oreophilus. No idea if they are the real deal, but it will at least be interesting to find out.

Number of ridges on the first leaf will be a good early indicator. 2 ridges will narrow it down to T. princeps, T. takil, T. nanus, T. ukhrulensis, T. oreophilus, or hybrid.

The best success I've had with Trachycarpus seeds is to sow them in a communal pot of well draining multi-purpose compost, left outside to do their thing once the risk of frost has passed. Occasional watering to stop the soil drying out if required.

I've always struggled to get them to germinate inside. I think they like the temperature variations outside provides.

I have done this. Well this week they are in the shade been cool last few days. But will see what happens. I will do my best and forget about them and hopefully be surprised. My nursery is almost out of room and I have 200 seeds still in bags

Zero soaking on trachycarpus too.

I didn’t soak mine either. Right into the moist substrate in the bag

I've failed miserably on takil. I look forward to buying a few from you, Joseph.
