This started to flower last year, two weeks ago ago the flowers opened and I had a ton of bees.  I will enclose in aluminum screen to protect from rats when the pollination stops. The other two spathes havebnot matured yet, and new spathes are here already,  starting this year.  I think it’s happy.  I have a long history with rats.  There are some interesting advise articles through U C Davis about rats and how to control. I use Contrac Blocks and they love it and it doesn’t hurt the cats or birds if they find and eat their  carcasses.  Most importantly the dogs are ok with it as well.  I hate rats!  Unfortunately then tree squirrels won’t touch it, but I have my ways of dealin w them, which I won’t mention.

I also hate rats. But I don't have a history with them.

Your plan sounds good.

If you meant to include a picture of your palm, I can't see it.
