Advice needed on the cultivation of Copernicia alba outdoors

I'd like to to read any information about the cultivation of this sp in the ground, since a potted a specimen of mine is about time to be out planted. So selection of spot, sun or shade tolerance, watering needs and drainage are some of the hot issues for the time being. My climate in hot  and dry in summer and with low average (not necessarily freezing temps) during moist winter. Many thanks to every contributor.

All I know about this is that this palm will do well in full sun.

I recently planted prunifera and that is a tough palm. It was greenhouse grown in almost full shade, the petioles were reallllyy stretched out and it was growing in almost pure pumice with its roots exposed. I put that palm in full sun in summer heat and it didnt even blink.

@Phoenikakias, as @Josue Diaz mentioned, they are tougher than nails, and (I'll add) even less cuddly.

I have one, and it's been a moderate grower for about 13 years, planted from a bitty baby.

It's about 8 - 9 feet (2.6 - 3 M) tall, with a crown about 3 - 4 feet (1 - 1.3 M) across, and the petioles have NASTY really NASTY recurved spines on them.

It's next to a Roystonea oleracea, so it tolerates a lot of water, though as @Josue Diaz notes, I think they'll take dry well, too. I hear they also take the cold, so by all means try them. @MattyB has one, plus a prunifera, maybe he'll chime in, too. Prunifera is much wider, and bluer in the leaves, though I hear they're similar in many ways.

Oh, yeah, the spines are nasty. Reach into the crown, no problem, but try to pull back out (without your Armored Gloves of Doom) and your hand and forearm get shredded and punctured. Prune the dead leaves off with a long-handled pruner, unless you're a serious masochist.

I've given them lots of nicknames. ITAI Palm, in Japanese. Nasty Catty Palm. Hai Karate Palm (be careful how you use it).

Full sun, away from paths.

That's exactly why I want to have it outplanted. Its stay in the cold frame is a constant threat for my clothes!

I wish I could give you more info, but I myself just this past year planted a small seedling in the ground.  I have it planted in full sun and is doing fine, but still getting established - even with almost a full week of nearly 40º C temps each afternoon.  I don't think it's very thirsty once established but I'm giving it regular watering.  I also have a C. prunifera seedling that is just now going palmate that I am considering planting out as well.  I've read a couple of times here that the cold tolerance is similar to C. alba and if that's the case I'll do it, but I had previously thought it was much more tender than C. alba.  The C. alba seems to be pretty tough.

I got the blue form from Ken Johnson with ~2' of trunk in 2012.  As dave says, the spines are among the worst and will cut you good.  And to make it worse, mine seems like it holds at least one hundred leaves, lots of cutting the thorny dead matter each year..  Its a pain to trim, but I put up with it because of the grey blue color which is nice.  My experience in high drainage sandy soils with top mulch is this palm can take low water but looks MUCH better with ample water  It also is not nearly as fertilizer hungry as cuban species I have grown.
