Oops meant to write Licuala distans in San Diego as the title any way this has been a winner for me been in the ground about 5 yrs from a one gallon i would like to see others growing in CA

They are unbelievably beautiful! Loved mine, it was about the same size, then it suddenly rotted and was no more. Haven't seen it for sale since but Im willing to give it another go as mine was planted in an area of heavy wet soil which didn't help, even though it did live for a good seven years. I was told the leaves get huge.

Sorry for your loss rose .the leaves on mine are 40 plus inches across out of the five species of licuala I am growing this  one is my favorite. I agree good drainage is very important along with bright light in shade and wind protection at least here in CA with our Santa Ana winds. I hope you find another one soon Cheers
