Windmill (Trachycarpus) form,

Las Palmas Norte

Recommended Posts

This Windmill palm is a bit different to what is usually seen, at least around here. I've seen similar but not with thick heavy trunks such as mine. Typically these grown in more shade than normal will exhibit elongated petioles but this measures out (petioles only) at 5 feet in length. Nearly all the leaflets droop at about ¾ of the way out, giving it another look. Tape measure extended to one foot.

Cheers, Barrie.

I have quite a few but this one is really in a class by itself. I have one other with longer petioles and a weeping habit but the trunk is thin.

Cheers, Barrie.

Looks like it’s reaching for more light. I hear most greenhouse raised windmills do this

You'd be half right. It get's about a half days sun with seasonal average. Been in the ground for at least 15 years.

Cheers, Barrie.
