Caryota rumphiana germination

I don't know what it is about this genes of palm that gets to me, be it the size, graceful appearance, or just that touch of exotic.

I recently received 24 seeds of the Caryota rumphiana, which one it is I don't know yet. Was labeled as Australian giant fishtail, but time will tell. I've searched for the C.gigas(obtusa) for some time now, and that search still goes on.

I'm currently soaking these seeds in warm water, that I will change everyday for about 3 days,  then going to put them in coconut coir like I did the red latans, keeping the substrate about 80 or so degrees.

Haven't found too much info on line about their germination, but will follow with what I have done with C.  maxima(him) and the C.mitis.

As far as the C. gigas I have even gone out on the perverbial limb and called theme parks and zoos where I know they are growing in hopes of finding one that is going into seed that perhaps they would be willing to sell me some fresh seeds.

So, anyone reading this if you have any suggestions on the germination of this species of Caryota feel free to comment. All knowledge and suggestions are always welcome.

Thanks Mark

Hey Mark,

I haven't germinated this one, but your idea of using a similar technique as C. mitis or C. maxima is probably a good one.  Have you communicated with "Eric in Orlando"?  I believe he is (or was) growing C. gigas at Leu Gardens.  Good luck with your latest germination projects!

Thanks Jon, yes I have but even though some have bloomed none have set seeds. I called Disney and Universal, and San Diego zoo, tried alot if them. Called Phil at Jungle Music, he had some 3-5 gallon that we're shippable  but we're gone. Thought about RPS but would like  to know the seeds are fresh and not sitting around a few months first.
