So my Washingtonia robusta appears to be dead now... Two of the three spears pulled. I pulled them out and sprayed the inside with hudrgren peroxide and it fizzled like crazy! The only reason I am not taking this little probably dead palm out is because there is once spear that did not pull. Do Washingtonias ever regenerate spears like Windmill Palms? Either way, this palm was an experiment. It was protected on the coldest days.

Looks totally dead to me. I see no sign of green at all. Keep up the peroxide treatments and wait but your chances of more freezing weather carry on till mid-April. Spring warmth will either hasten possible recovery or total collapse. This species can't hack a VA winter.

That is what I was thinking. The only thing keeping me from taking it out today was that that one spear was still in tact. I will continue using the hydrogen peroxide about once or twice a week. Just a small amount per treatment.

Mine rotted to the core so I doubt it’s still alive.

Can’t hurt to keep trying, especially if a spear is still intact. I lost mine last week, the new spears and the newest frond all pulled out at once, and the inside was completely hollow.

@PalmTreeDude, looks bad, amigo.

Nudge the base with your hand or toe. If it's tight, maybe, maybe there's a chance. If it just rattles, hum a dirge and move on.

Been there, done that too many times.

There are no signs of it be all rotted at the base. But the spear area is a mess. I do think it is dead. But, like I said, I want to be 100% sure before I rip it out.

Won't those just rot here with the wet winters either way?

Perhaps, but they wont die from the cold when wrapped up like the robusta did.
