Well, there's another Jubea in the mission bay grove that's carking. It's got some crazy trunk damage. Thoughts?

Thanks Rich,

I took a brief walk around & did a visual inspection of the others (about 20 or so). Everything else looks happy. I've never seen trunk damage like that before.

If that is insect damage, that is pretty scary.  Those Jubaeas in Mission Bay are a nice San Diego landmark, would be a shame to lose them.

maybe rot from sprinklers hitting in the same area all the time. I notice a similar thing in Blythe this weekend on cali fans. The damage was exactly where the sprinklers hit.

About 4 years ago they planted another large grouping of these about 1/2 mile north of the old group. I've been amazed at the growth rate on them.

Theres a century-old jubaea at Roeding Park in Fresno that died some time ago. All that's left is the massive trunk.
