Hey you all, I got an email from NZseeds today and they said NZ is having one of the hottest summer and lots of seeds will be earlier than normal.  I've often noticed when the southern hemisphere has a hot summer we do too the following year, at least in my area of the country.

So NZ & Aussie's how Hot has it been?

Been a good spring and summer here...Sept-Oct was above average, but November was very cool (and thankfully very wet). December so far has been hot and humid with great rainfall...perfect palm growing weather...I hope it continues! Tomorrow will be 36C (97F) with a chance of some rain or an arvo thunderstorm, along with very high humidity...gotta love it! and NYE will be stormy as well!

Wow this is too hot!!! And the UV index is crazy!!! Here, the worst days in Summer is 11.

Luckily Birdsville is 1500 km inland from Brisbane....around these parts it is much cooler...only 33C today, but higher humidity than inland. UV here is still 14-15... that is why we have so much skin cancer here...

Thats an incredibly high uv index. We have a few monthly averages of 10-10.5 every year but our highest is usually 12 here. I can't recall ever seeing it get above that.  Same with Phoenix which maxes out at 12 but can average just over 11-11.5 during July.

Its been a hot month so far at Birdsville in Queensland's far West.     Yesterdays  maximum of 45C ( 113F)  followed by a nightly minimum was 34.4C (94F) is uncomfortably HOT.

Yeah, typical higher latitude temperature rollercoaster...44C a few days ago, followed by a cooling trend where the max temps were only 24C a couple of days later, but now back up to 34C today.

Likewise Melbourne was 41C a few days ago...when I checked the temp today they were only 15C at lunchtime!

Temperatures are much more consistent in Queensland, although it does vary on occasion...we are in a hot spell now, a couple of days of humid 37C this weekend.

Been cool over here in the SW. Haven't recorded even a 30C day this January. Hottest so far for this summer is a 34.4C in December. So far January is running at 13.8C min and 24.8C max on average for my place.

Talking about uv indexes my weather station recorded a 15 back in September. I think we had a serious case of an ozone hole that day. Mostly around 10 or 11 in summer.

This summer is turning out to be a mild cool cloudy and humid affair with not a great deal of variation from the low to mid twenties every day. The more cloud the higher the chance of drizzle. Great Hedyscepe and Ceroxylon weather. We really don't get summer here, not like Perth anyway. But even still it's been particularly mild and all the heat is going east.

I'm envious of your calm warm humid weather. At this time of year the isobars are miles apart at your latitude.

Down here there is such a big temperature difference between the inland heat and the cool southern ocean so still days are non existent. The moment the sun starts to warm the land the sea breeze starts and often that brings a marine layer of cloud  as far as 30 or 40 kms inland. Once the sun goes down everything's goes still again and the clouds clear. We have had the tail end of some strong cold fronts this month and the temp can drop from 29C to 19C in a matter of 2 or 3 hrs with very strong winds that tend to bring large branches down. We also had the remnants of ex tropical cyclone Joyce drop some nice rain on us too.

It's bang on midnight here on the northern beaches of Sydney

Outside 24celcius 94% humidity

Days have been around 28 to 30

Our past winter was rather warm but also very dry.

Lowest winter night temp I recorded was 5.5 Celsius. Coastal Sydney has warmer nights than western Sydney, but cooler days than western Sydney

No sign of drought in the Top End. My rainfall total for this month, January, so far is 978.2 mm. There's still 24 hours to go to the end of the month. Last 24 hours I got 157.2 mm and the rain keeps coming. Looks like tomorrow morning my total will have easily topped the 1000 mm mark for the month.

That's where our heat went. January didn't even hit 30C once this year. Very cool.

TC Marcus looks like it's gonna track down the west coast of Oz this week. Cat 4 at the moment meant to turn cat 5. Expected to dissipate at sea though, but the tropics will warp a fair way south for a while.

Then there was Darwin getting cycloned.

Darwin was lucky, being near the 'starting blocks' rather than near the end of the run. The difference was only getting winds to 130 kph instead of 325 kph.

325 kph would be worse than what I saw after the 1992 hurricane smashed up the area south of Miami.  The Castellow Hammock forest, reduced to splinters, is back to a reasonable size, not that Miami ever had big trees. 130 is a bit more than we've seen in the past two years.  Messy, power out.  Two neighbors are just now having their roofs redone, partly due to minor damage in September.

@Daryl 97F at midnight... WOW!  Even South Florida is not that hot at night!

I’m surprised, I’ve experienced 95F at midnight in NYC a couple of times.

Those UV Index numbers are insane, but it makes sense since the earth is at its closest point to the sun during the Southern Hemisphere’s summer. Highest UV Index I’ve seen here is 11.

Just recorded the highest dew point I've seen down here on my new weather station. Yesterday what was left of tc Marcus went through as a low pressure zone and it was about 24, 25C and I recorded a 23.1C dew point. It blew up a bit too. The Toyota Hiace I use for work was hard to drive in a straight line down the highway. Everything has had a nice drink from the rain and it's calm and cloudy this morning.

Millbrook, "Kinjarling" Noongar word meaning "Place of Rain", Rainbow Coast, Western Australia 35S. Warm temperate. Csb Koeppen Climate classification. Cool nights all year round.

We get multiple days of 95-100f @ midnight in downtown dallas and fort worth every year, but nowhere near as many as Phoenix.

If those days were changed to months, Dallas/Ft.Worth would have a very different vegetation/flora.

5 year high 42.2C/108F (07/06/2018)--5 year low 4.6C/40.3F (1/19/2023)--Lowest recent/current winter: 4.6C/40.3F (1/19/2023)
