Madagascar Mystery Palms - ID Request(s)

Recommended Posts

hello

I would like to use this thread to pick apart the remaining mystery palms i saw while in Masoala. The one catch is that i am an amateur photographer and was absolutely exhausted from hiking when i took these photos, so they are often less than ideal. Also this is ‘expert mode’, as i have boiled these down with the help of a few palm gurus and these are the ones that have stumped us.

First, we have this ‘bigfoot’ style photo, where i managed to get everything in front of the palm in focus while the palm itself is blurry and mysterious:

disappointed that i didnt manually focus or take any more detailed shots, but c’est la vie

Any help would be appreciated!

Perhaps it is the juvenile form of this palm, another question mark in my notes, thankfully the rest of the pictures i will share will not be blurry.

first of all Bravo for going to Madagascar!!

The palm in your picture is stunning. I hope you can get a positive ID.

I also think its a D. ovo. just stretched out a bit?

I'll be back in Hawaii next year maybe we can meet up for some brewskis :)

looks to me like Dypsis ovobontsira

Yes similar to ovo but with shorter petioles, close enough in range to be plausible.

@Josh-O i would definitely be down! hit me up anytime
