Anyone know if this tree would work as a houseplants?  I currently have a Mahogany tree that I grew from seed about 15 years ago.  It makes a cool houseplant.

Possibly.. especially if maintained like any standard Bonsai ( root pruning, etc to keep the roots from circling as it grows) though I suspect some Quercus sp. accept confinement better than others.  Secondly, this might also be a trial-worthy species to plant outdoors there. I've heard of dedicated, zone pushing Oak fanatics attempting various species from both the Southwest US and Mexico across the southeast, Texas, and the Pac. Northwest with some surprising results thus far including much better than anticipated cold tolerance, esp. among the species trialed from Mexico..

Because this species grows at higher altitudes, 5500-7k range in the central and southern mountain ranges here in AZ,  it should already possess some degree of cold tolerance outdoors. Summer rainfall is also a fairly common occurrence in its native range so it should be better able to handle the extra rainfall there compared to other species that come from areas where summer rains are light and occasional, or completely non existant ( particularly low elevation Oaks from California.)
