Mel Tillis passed yesterday, he was 85, two years older than an infamous serial killer who died this morning.

Mr. Tillis used to call my aunt and try to get her to go on a date with him (before she married my uncle and before he was famous). His song, Okeechobee Ocean, is dear to my heart.

He was a most likable Lake Okeechobee native.

USDA 1990 hardiness zone 9B
Current USDA hardiness zone 10a
4 km inland from Indian River; 27º N (equivalent to Brisbane)

Central Orlando's urban heat island may be warmer than us
