Philippe and Hebert’s Box

It was not a Hurrcun but it could have been. It shot through South Florida and the Key’s last night West to East ( classic Sidewinder). October 28,29 2017 winds in tropical gusts in excess of 40 MPH were recorded throughout South Florida Airports with abundant precipitation. Tornado activity was observed in downtown WPB.

It travelled through Hebert’s Second Box (15-20 degrees latitude/80-85 degrees longitude) corresponding to the late season Sidewinder. Similar to Wilma, except that Wilma was a Hurrcun, it dragged through a cool front that was great relief. Winds last night certainly seemed a good deal higher than recorded at local airports (seemed more like 60 MPH)!

I always appreciate your hurricane lore and knowledge, Bubba. Philippe caught me by surprise as I wasn't expecting a named tropical storm, just rain. I played an afternoon Oktoberfest gig under the big tent Sat. afternoon and it poured. On Sun. the employee parking lot was so flooded we had to park on the front lawn. The outside garden was closed by flooding so we moved to the stage inside the dining hall and played for the diners. Better than 5 hours outside in falling temps and howling winds. Gemutlichkeit!

Meg,

So sorry to hear that Philippe caused havoc on your Oktoberfest Celebration and performance. I always enjoy your posts and you are obviously multi-talented. Also,I was not familiar with the word “Gemütlichkeit” and it’s meaning.

I have always found your salutation “ I’d like to be under the sea in an octopus’ garden in the shade” to be one of the best (Ringo?) Gemütlichkeit. What a wonderful concept and back at you!
