Cool plant in the neighborhood

Nice find. Some of those giant pipevines have hard-to-believe looking flowers. It's really too bad they have such a relatively small (albeit berserk) following. The smell can be a bit off putting in some, but not normally too offensive in open gardens.

Never expected to see an Aristolochia gigantea in my area.

My wife and I did a garden tour in the Loma Portal (Point Loma) area near the airport a couple of years ago, and saw a wall covered with this plant.  I didn't know what it was at the time.  I didn't notice a foul smell either.  Thanks for sharing the picture.  Is this one in Carlsbad?

No it isn't Tracy. It's in Oceanside up near the Eternal Hills cemetery.

Thanks for the post!  Years ago I saw a fence in San Diego covered with that vine and I wondered what it was.  I am going to have to try that!

Loawdy, Mista Gonzah suh, you sure did find a find.

We had one of them up at the Fullerton arboretum, and it was impressive.

So cool! I know that area and would love to see it. Is it at the cemetery?

I don't know if it's still there. It's the first house on the left off Laurel as you turn up Portofino Dr. Wooden fence. It was in the eastern end of the fence alongside a huge Montanoa (Daisy Tree). He's got a D. decaryi in his front. Midway, up and behind TJ's and Staters.

Thank you!  I'll keep my eyes open for it next time I'm in the area.
