what should i do to prepare my musa basjoo bananas for winter?  i know im supposed to cut them down but then what?

Once you cut them down heavily mulch them. Make sure the bananas and the area around them is well covered in mulch, I am assuming winters in Connecticut freeze deeper so I would make sure you have the Banana deep in mulch. All I do is about about 6 inches of mulch on mine but keep in mind that is here in Virginia on a zone 7a/7b climate. So I would just use a lot of mulch and maybe some hay / straw. Ask Logee's Greenhouses in CT - they have a patch that I believe stays outside in the ground. 

Quackin' Grass Nursery, also in CT, might also have a patch in the ground. 

I never paid attention to what they might do with them this time of year, though.
