Hi guys, getting close to that time of year again.  My 7ft trachy came back great this summer, not wanting a repeat of last winter.  I'm in zone 7, Oklahoma City.  I know the cold hardiness of the overall tree, just curious as to what temperature foliage sustains damage and dies?

I want to try to protect everything that has grown back over the spring/summer, especially if we get an abnormal cold front like last winter.  Thanks!

Well, what really hurt your palm more than the absolute temp this year was the warmth that we had during Christmas and everything was actively growing right before temps plummeted mid january. But to answer your question it looks like 5f seems to start burning mature windmills.

Mine endured several days in a row with lows if about -10C last winter and was fine. However, it looked really unhappy the whole time with folded and spotted leaflets. I reckon foliar damage begins at around -12/-13C for a longer period of time.
