Drought Broken, Darwin

The 1st of October is the official start of the Wet Season in the Top End of the Northern Territory. And as if it was scripted, we had a beautiful little downpour about 9.00am this morning. This was the first rain in the Leanyer ( my suburb ) gauge since 28th April, ie; 5 full calendar months without rain. Without checking official records it would be right up there with the longest droughts recorded. We have an extreme Wet/Dry monsoonal climate that is hard on man, beast and palms. Last 'wet' I recorded 100" until the end of April and not a drop since until this mornings welcome rain. I shudder to think what my next water bill is gunna read.....I have been pouring it on to keep the palm garden looking good. Our 'dry' season was hotter then usual too, with both August and September being the hottest on record.
