A big palm needs a big hole:P.

Looks like you have given yourself an opportunity to amend a large area beneath and around your Dypsis decipiens future home.  You may have mentioned in other strings what type of soil you have, but I don't recall.  I don't have to dig holes like that here in Leucadia, but I definitely did in my clay bound soil 3 1/2 miles away in Carlsbad.  Now you will have to share photos when the planting is complete, and I'm sure it won't look too big anymore!;)

Looks fine, just backfill to the top of the hole. :D

Cheers Steve

It is not dead, it is just senescence.

And here it is! After hours and hours working and drinking cold beer, the decipiens is in the ground.

The hole has 100 x 80 cm or 40" x 31'5" and was filled with top soil, compost and coarse sand for a good drainage.

My native soil is sandy limestone, amazing for Coccothrinax but horrible for Dypsis.

Now, i must wait to see if it is happy in the new place.

Thanks for your time.
