medjool transplant advice

Recommended Posts

Hello I have two medjool palms that I have had for several years I planted them as yearlings and want to take them with me to my new house. I am not sure how easy these guys are to transplant. Can anyone give me some insight or share your experience? Thank you

If you have enough time, dig it out over the course of several weeks to minimize stress. Cut a trench on one side. Allow the roots to callous. Trench another side two weeks later. then the third side and the fourth. This will prevent the palm from going into shock from having all of its roots cut out at once.

Like Joseph said, the bigger the root ball, the better chance you have of a successful transplant.

I know your palm is a lot smaller, but here are some pics of some much larger medjool palms shipped from CA to FL. They arrive on a flatbed after a 3 day cross country journey, non-stop with two drivers taking turns. Each palm costs around 7k and the root ball is larger than a standard washing machine.
