Pindo Palm

Hello Everyone!

I planted a lot of trees 3 years ago and was new at this but have learned a lot. My Pindo Palm was probably not getting enough water and went brown. The leader or bloom spike died so I pulled it. It's been 2 years and the tree is alive but no new growth. I took pics with my iphone but it's no allowing me to upload even though the pics are smaller than 8MB.

I hope to hear from some of you who are familiar with palms and pindos.

Thank you!

If your palm hasn't grown at all in two years and I mean no new leaves then I think it's probably had it. Decapitated palms can sometimes sit there with a green stem/trunk for years but there is no way they are ever going to grow again.

I am hoping that isn't the case because this is quite heavy and I carried it up the hill in a 30 gallon nursery pot in 2014. A year later I noticed it wasn't getting enough water.

I'll figure out how to post the images because I'm getting a message saying the file is too large so everyone can get a better "picture".

Thanks for the feedback Neil.

The spear can pull on these & they'll still often live, but two years is a long time. It's definitely a judgment call. The smaller it is, the faster I'd replace it. Regarding pictures, for some reason, I can only upload one at a time; if I try two, it gives me that message. So I have to post one picture, then go to the main board to reply to my own post, and then post another picture. And so on. A bit of a pain; I just assumed I was technologically challenged..

I too was thinking it's a judgement call because I planted many podocarpus graclior in the same yard. One went really brown (looked dead) and a landscaping profesional friend couldn't decide from a pic if it was too much water (root rot) because of potential clay soil not draining OR too little water. I hit it hard with water and it is thriving and growing.

Will try to post pic. The file is 2.3 mb and you are allowed 8 mb and I still get an error "there was a problem uploading the file".

Appreciate your response.

Try to get some pictures posted for us to look at.

Jim, I was able to post 2 pics. Let me know if you get a chance to look at them and what you now think.

Thanks!

If it hasn't grown in two years it is dead.  Ive seen jubaea and butia in 45g pots still have green outer leaves for several years to the point where the trunk is so rotten you could knock it over with your hand.

Gary,

Looked at your pictures. As some above have stated, this is a judgement call.

2 years is a long time for this palm not to have shown any growth.

If this was me, I would pull them and replace. But that's me!

Good luck.
