Coccothrinax alta - fresh seeds

Recommended Posts

Coccothrinax alta is native to Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Recently, some, but not all, sources have lumped it with C. barbadensis (native to Lesser Antilles, Barbados down to Venezuala). I received the mother palms as doubles under the moniker C. alta and I am staying with that ID. This species is relatively fast-growing for a Coccothrinax, reaching up to 10 meters tall with age. Leaves are emerald green with yellow hastulas and a pale silvery sheen on the reverse. It is hardy to zones 10/11 and protected areas of 9b.

The particulars:

Up to 100 seeds = $10.00              Additional amounts = $7.00 per 100

Shipping = $4.00 for up to 300 seeds. For higher amounts I will quote rates individually.

Payment via Paypal

No shipping outside the US - the cost is prohibitive

Are these easy to germinate?  I bought some fresh Coccothrinax (not alta) from someone else on here and I got nothing.  I dug the seeds out to see and they had completely decomposed.

When fresh, they germinate easily. They germinate faster at temps above 80-90F. Still, you have to be patient as they can take weeks to months to do so. Keep soil moist but not soggy. In longterm wet soil seeds can rot. You can put them outdoors in full sun this time of year.
