Fertilizing suckering palms.

I read somewhere that when you drop the granules of fertilizer around the trunk of your palm you are not supposed to let any fall into the crown.

This gets difficult to do with suckering palms that have many heads, especially spikey ones that it is hard to get close too.

For example, I have quite a few suckering Chamaerops that are very low to the ground. It is pretty much impossible to get under the palms and sprinkle the fertilizer around the trunks, so I have to just sprinkle it above the whole cluster. Inevitably quite a lot of the fertilizer ends up in the crowns, is that OK?

I'd throw the fertilizer in from the sides keeping in down low. Alternatively you could just lay a circle of fertilizer around the base of the palm as close as you can get. Chamaerops send their roots out wide and will soon find your presents.

Fertilize around the perimeter of the clump, i.e.,  the drip zone area.
