Really strange butia

This strange butia has been here for years. The fronds never fully open. I should watch for seeds & see if it carries over to the seedling. Almost like a Lisa version of a butia.

 Does it have some kind of deficiency or something else? Sure is unusual looking!

That's what I thought, but it's been like that for over 6 years that I know of & never seems to decline.

Here’s what I think it is… 

Fronds Stay Tight
Lack of Zinc (Zn) creates what is called “ladder leaf ” – where the fronds do not unfold properly. Applying Zinc Sulfate around the palm base for about three months will overcome this problem.

Maybe someone else has more info?

Looks to me like a climbing vine or brush all over the trunk is choking it out.
