Save the date for our next palm meeting on Sunday, July 16th for a double treat with Guest Speaker Dr. Sanchez from Cuba and a tour of the Edith Bergstrom gardens.

Directions and Garden Info from Edith Bergstrom

Directions to 149 Hawthorn Drive, Atherton

From the San Francisco take the 101 freeway south toward San Jose.  Leave the freeway at the Marsh Road.  The city just north of Atherton is Redwood City and the street before Marsh Rd. is Woodside Road.  You will go about a mile on Marsh.  You are heading west toward the sun.  The road will dead-end into Middlefield Rd.  Turn left.  Drive what will seem like a very long block until you see a large double arched entry into Lindenwood.  Turn in and go to the second cross street, Hawthorn Dr.  Turn right.  You will go a block and nearly a half and see a lot of palm trees on your left.  This is 149 Hawthorn Dr.  You can park in front or turn into the driveway by the mail box.

From the south you will pass exits to Palo Alto and Menlo Park and take the Marsh Road exit crossing back over the freeway to go West.

Info on the Garden – www.bergstromgardens.org

We bought the property in 1998 and remodeled the house.  We moved in in the Fall of 1990 and I began to plant palm trees.  The lot next door was purchased in 2003.  I have somewhere under 200 palm trees.  I will give a better description in person, in the meantime visit the garden on line.  www.Bergstromgardens.org

Info on Guest Speaker from Cuba

Our guest speaker will be Dr. Carlos Santos from the National Botanical Garden in Havana, Cuba. Several members of NCPS met Dr. Sanchez during a UC Botanical Garden trip to Cuba. Dr. Sanchez is working with UC Botanical Garden at Berkeley for the summer and we are delighted to welcome him to our palm meeting. He has written several books, and lectured in a number of countries.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on Sunday, JULY 16.

Meeting starts at 1 pm and will end at 5 pm. Please bring a potluck item for the potluck and consider bringing a palm donation for our palm auction.

If you are interested in hosting a meeting at your garden for this year's calendar, please contact Glenn at: harris.g@monet.k12.ca.us.  Thanks!
