Pink Rot

A few months back, I forgot to turn off my irrigation, and I left it on all night.  Not too long after, my Beccariophoenix got pink rot.  I splashed some daconil and Copper Fungicide in the crown, along with some Hydrogen Peroxide.    There look to be a few spears that are now pushing up.  I've wiped down the crown.  I think that it will pull through, but it would be nice to contain the particulates near the top of the spear - or cut them out.  Plant looks great otherwise.  Any additional thoughts?

That's a tough one Steve, I had a Rhopalostylis get pink and the best I could do was hope it stayed ahead of it by growing fast.  Each frond that would fall off would always have pink underneath it but otherwise the palm was okay.  I really couldn't treat with anything because it was all under the petioles but I don't know of anything out there that will kill it.  The palm died about a year after we moved but the new owners didn't water much over the drought and I think that was the final straw.  Keep treating and try to say of ahead of it......but it is always around I'm afraid.

Did you actually see pink rot??  It looks like it is growing out of it what ever it was.

Yes, you might be able to see the pink in the fried section of the spear.  And, yeah, that's what I was thinking too.  The spear has pushed about 2" in the last month or so.  So, I'm wondering if letting it just dry out would do the trick...

These are prone to crown rot but have especially good powers of recovery.

Steve how did your Beccariophoenix do over the summer, did it grow out of this?

Hey Carl,

It did well.  It's about 7' tall, and probably holds 15 fronds.  I believe that it's like 3 years old, from a 1 gallon.
