Areca ipot

Received some Areca ipot seeds April 25, cleaned them a little better, then soaked a couple days. Planted April 28th. Opened the baggie today May 25 and found lots of sprouts! Took pic of just a few. So, took just about a month. Very cool palm, like a mini Areca catechu.

That's great, Charlene. I love ipot & guppyana but have had trouble keeping them alive long term. Hope you have good luck with them.

Some Areca can get really weird when humidity drops... Weird, like commiting suicide. Even vestiaria can be touchy.

My last A. vestiaria croaked a few months ago. Won't get another of those. Here on the west coast we have a shorter rainy season. That slight difference might be just enough to deep-six these palms.

I've have tried A. guppyana, and they definitely did not like drying winter winds. Being a stilt root palm, they're probably water lovers. But, I did grow about 6 or 7 to one gallon size that were never really happy here and I eventually gave them away. Will try my luck with A. ipot.......

Nature Girl, good luck with your seeds. Hope they do well for you.

These are such stellar little garden palms with a scale you can always appreciate. Especially showy when seeding as they go from deep green, to yellow, then deep orange.

Always photo worthy as well.

I like all the Arecas mentioned and in the high humidity in PR they are easy. However I have never grown A. ipot only the much much taller A. catechu. A former neighbor has one so maybe I can get some seed to try for one as nice as yours. A. guppyana and A. vestiaria are favorites as is everything with stilts!

Those seeds look very healthy and hope they grow quickly for you!
