Looks like manganese deficiency, give it some manganese or a good quality fertilizer with minors and it should come out of it.

Yes, nutritional deficiency but new growth looks good. I definitely wouldn't cut a live leaf like that again though.

  • 1 year later...

After one year my Archie is still sick... I have used horse manure as fertiliser since I do not know the exact dose of fertilizer to use! Im scared to use too much and kill the palm...

Here are some new pictures, seems like the growth has been stopped ... Any advice to help this palm to look better ?

Manganese deficiency. Sometimes i have the same problem with mine. It is a common deficiency in alkaline soils and more, after de Winter.

It can be recovered, but needs a long time, more or less, one year.

I mentioned this a year ago, did you give it manganese? It may be too late now but you can try to give it some and hope it comes back.

I can't find here 100% manganese fertilizer. I found today a foliar spray fertilizer with high concentration of manganese, iron, zinc, copper, boron and magnesium, I tried it today and hope to have good results....

Anyone here have any experience with foliar spray fertilizer and palms ?

Bonjour Gilles,

I may have used insecticides one or two times before to kill some ants in my garden. Do you think it could be because of that ? Or it's more due to the poor soil as explainned by @Monòver and @Palmaceae

I will give some updates in few days if I can see some improvements using the foliar spray fertilizer.

Thanks!

With a palm in this condition foliar sprays may not be enough. It needs nutrition it can absorb through its roots as a drench. Even then the palm will take months to grow out of that condition and will go into winter severely debilitated. Are replacement palms expensive in your area? A new healthy palm may be your best bet right now. However, a new palm faces the same nutritional issues as this one.

Ok thanks for the advice, I will probably then replace this palm, I can get arround same size plam for arround 20 to 40USD.
I will make sure to dig deep and mix some manure with soil to avoid this issue again, once well established use a good fertiliser.

Thanks.
