Chamaedorea Robusta?

Was at a nursery today and they had a couple palms marked "Chamaedorea Robusta"  The owner wasn't there to ask in the people on staff couldn't tell me anything about it and I don't see anything specific on the Internet when I Google it. Anyone here for that species?

I have not heard of that species before, and I have been growing some Chamaedoreas for a very long time.   Did you happen to take photos of it? That would help immensely.   Cheers.

Not a valid species. Appears to be a mid 19th century misidentification by Wendland that reappears much later as a tropical ornamental nursery catch-all name for C. pochutlensis, C. elatior and a couple other pinnate-leaf spp., perhaps incl. C. elegans. Apart from Hodel's brief note on its taxonomic status in his monograph I have not seen the name outside of IPNI, Kew World Checklist and Tropicos during online generic checklist reviews. From your posting, it now appears that the name has persisted in some corners of the nursery trade.

Whenever I have doubts about a palm name, I use the Kew Monocot Checklist.  This is where one can see that Chamaerops humilis var. cerifera should properly be C. humilis var. argentea.

Oh yeah!

They used to call king palms "Seaforthia elegans"; that name was discredited 30 years ago and some nurseries still use it.
