A plethora of Coconut palm trees!!

At first I thought, CGI. Someone in the SW factory has a thing for Coconut palms.. But then I started to see seedlings and several juvenile cocos in the movie. Even saw some tattered, mature trees. That's when I knew it was not CGI. I did a little research and:

It seems the location where this scene was filmed was in Laamu Atoll in Maldives.  (Planet Scarif in the movie)

I saw this multiple times in the theater. It seems there were 3 sets of palms;

1. Coconuts from the location shoot in the Maldives

Image result for rogue one beach

2. Phoenix specimens from a set

Image result for rogue one baze

3. Fake CGI palms

They mixed up Coconuts with date palms and brought them all to a set in London I heard. Why couldn't they just film in the Bahamas?

Or better yet film in Madagascar! Everyone is familiar with coconuts and dates, but Isalo National Park with all those giant Bismarck palms would have looked so exotic and over-worldly. It really would have looked like an unfamiliar planet to the average viewer.

Don't mean to be a NERD but the stormtrooper (and clone trooper) suits/helmets  were hi-tech and had climate control to operate in many environments.

Yes, I am a Star Wars nerd.

I wonder if you could use a modified stormtrooper/clone trooper suit to protect and grow palms in Hoth? That whole planet's probably in zone 2b tops. Ok I'm done...

When I saw that scene I wanted to scream out the names of all the palms. They had a lot of date palms as well!

I can't say that I have seen large numbers of Phoenix with large numbers of Cocos before. Usually one or the other. Thought it was a great effect. That planet was one of my favourite scenes in the movie. Loved that film. Loved how original it was. Episode 7 came across as just a copy of episode 4 to me. Looking forward to episode 8.
