Repotting day

Recommended Posts

Spring arrives to Spain and i think is the best moment to repot a few palms that must wait for more time to be planted. I hope they will be growing healthy in the new pot.

The first is Johannestmania altifrons. One year in the old pot and i think is the moment for a big pot. People says i must be worried with root disturbance, but last year was perfect and i think, this will be the same.

And now, Howea forsteriana

Lots of good work paying off!

You've inspired me to take photos of everything this spring when it goes out on the balcony; whether it needs to be repotted or not.

It would be good to have some comparison shots for myself and to present here.

Soil seems to be keeping together nicely on that Joey. Shouldn't be a problem. Good luck!

I had also a repotting day of very happy babies from @Kai in Balconia Germanica at 27°C 55%. The three smaller ones (Allagoptera caudescens, Syagrus botryophora, Lytocaryum/Syagrus hoehnei) got large 2 litre pots (Ø14.8xH17.4 cm) while the Sabinaria is still sitting in its small Ø12xH12 cm pot.

Many thanks! :) Only these three seedlings had a repotting day in a mix of 2/4 fine pine bark + 1/4 Seramis® + 1/4 fine LECA (4-8 mm) and on the bottom a 1-2 cm thick LECA layer:

I will need to repot my Joey altifrons this year or next and I'm terrified :crying: It doesn't have soil holding the roots nicely in place, but clay pebbles!

Naples (inland), FL - technically 10a but more like 9b in the winter :hmm:

Don't worry Missi, if you be careful, your Joey will be perfect.

Mine after two months it is nice.

Precious pupper!!  I have 5 fur babies, and they always want to be the focus of my camera lens :P

I hope my altifrons will be okay. I've read stories of people being extremely careful, but their Joey still perishes. :crying:

Love the large leaf on yours!!!

Thanks, let's see how it does. I think it will be pushing palmate leafs this season.

I'm not going to kill the oleander (poor thing, it's flowering like mad :D) but next year is going to my father's garden together with my Hedychium greenii and Agaphantus. I need more space on the terrace because one of my Sabal uresana and Livistona nitida will be more happy if they were repotted too. They're already showing roots from the draining pot (9x9x20cm)
