Zamia Seedlings For Sale

Recommended Posts

So I've got a variety of Zamia seedlings that could use some new homes. Plants available for local pick up, or shipped bare root in spaghnum. Shipping costs are not included in the prices listed below. Also can not send these internationally. Anyway, here's what I have available:

Z. sandovalii $40 each (1 leaf seedlings) Very rare Honduran cliff dwelling Zamia.

Z. nana $20 each or $15 each on quantities of 5 or more (1 leaf seedlings) Rare and fairly recently described dwarf species from Panama. RPS has these seeds for sale right now at $8 each.

Z. purpurea $25 each (1 leaf seedlings) Rare dwarf Mexican species. One of my personal favorite Zamia species, flushes a beautiful color that lasts for months and is small enough to fit into any place in the garden.

Z. imperialis $45 each (large 3-4 leaf seedlings with 1 inch+ of caudex) Rare plicate leafed species from Panama. Giant leaflets and beautiful orange flushes.

Z. nesophila $25 each (mostly 2 leaf seedlings) Uncommon plicate leaf species from Panama. Probably the all around toughest of the plicate Panamanian species.

Z. fairchildiana $20 each (2 leaf seedlings) Beautiful arborescent species from Costa Rica and Panama.

Z. standleyi $10 each (2 leaf seedlings) Small, very attractive species from Honduras that can be either green or orange emergent. Very distinctive teeth on the leaflets.

PM me with any orders or questions. Thanks for looking!

What is the lowest temperature for Zamia Purpurea, I couldn't find any information on the web?  I need to stay above 24 F but it would be under canopy.  Can it tolerate shade, or low filtered light, or are requirements bright filtered light, part sun?  Thank you Cecile

Thanks Jeff!

To answer your questions Cecile, I can't really give much personal experience towards the cold hardiness on Zamia purpurea. I would guess given the hardiness of some of the other Zamia species that occur close to it in habitat, that it would be reasonably cold tolerant. Also, it's subterranean caudex would probably protect it quite a bit too, even if it suffered some leaf damage from serious cold. I can't imagine many Zamia species other than integrifolia can handle down to 24 degrees though, so if it's exposed to that kind of cold I wouldn't be particularly optimistic. As to lighting, these definitely prefer shade to bright filtered light at most. Definitely not a full sun species. Anyway, hope that helps a little. Thanks for the interest!
