I went out to the desert March 5, one week too early to see the full effect of the rains.  I saw some flowers, and tons of unopened flower buds.  I hear the next weekend was incredible. A few sights:

The weight of lies will bring you down / And follow you to every town / Cause nothin happens here

That doesn't happen there / So when you run make sure you run / To something and not away from

Cause lies don't need an aero plane / To chase you anywhere

Peak spring bloom in my front yard today: Two 6-foot Channel Islands Tree Poppy (Dendromecon harfordii) border a Ceanothus 'Concha' hybrid. In the foreground is a desert mallow (Sphaeralcea ambigua). This is a dry garden that uses barely any water during the year other than rain.

Monitoring the Wildflower Report page on the Desert USA site, Any displays across the most of the region ( AZ / CA ) are going to be very scattered and light -at best- this year. Only seen a few things flowering right next to roadsides around town / when i've been down to Tucson. Heading out east of town again soon and while there might be some stuff flowering there ( area has had a little more of what little rain we had over the winter ) Don't expect much.  Annual stuff in the front yard is already done and cleaned out.

Nor. Cal looks better, but still looks like a light year up there as well. Sierra might be decent in some areas.

Summer ahead could be interesting for AZ / NM,  ..potentially Anza Borrego / S.D. county mountains / the Big Bear area  if suggestions for at least a normal / average Monsoon season pan out/ sends repeated activity west of the deserts this year. Crossing my fingers the odds for something much wetter than average only increase as we get closer to June. Need to make up for two horrible back to back summers.

This has been a dry winter out here.

High water bills, few or no wildflowers, no “Apoppycalypse.”
