Best source for mulch for palms around Hilo?

I tried the mushroom mulch from Laupahoehoe and it was great at first, but I found that it disappeared into the soil kinda quickly. Which is not a bad thing, but I was hoping to find something that would last longer. What is the take on mulch from the Hilo green waste dump? Does it probably contain fire ants?

Thanks!

Hi cagary, we routinely take green waste to the facility here in Hilo and periodically pick up either pallet mulch or the shredded type. Today on one of our trips to the dump, we were given notice that the mulch will be available on a very limited basis. I guess they are making a concentrated effort to ensure the mulch is heated to a temperature to kill fire ants, coqui frogs, and various seeds and plants. I think you have to call to see if any mulch is available. This is a good thing for all of us who regularly get mulch from the green waste facility. Goodness knows we supply enough to the stockpile.
