Is my potting soil bad?

I mixed up what I thought was good potting soil for my baby palm projects.  I was proud of myself. My pride soon turned to disappointment. After a couple weeks I looked in my container and noticed what appears to be some sort of cotton-candy-like fungal growth on the surface of my mix. Is this normal; is it a problem; or is it all ruined? The fungus is most evident against the green hand shovel in the first picture.

That sucks! Wether it is ok or not. I personally would not use it. Although, I do not know what the fungus could do to the roots, so before you do anything wait for more replies. But, if you do end up dumping it, clean the bin and the scoop very well with soap.

I'm not enthused by the fuzz.  But it's a fairly common phenom.

I think...is mycorhizal fungi....

Having no idea what I am doing I looked up mycorhizal fungi and this is what I found..

"Mycorrhizae are symbiotic relationships that form between fungi and plants. The fungi colonize the root system of a host plant, providing increased water and nutrient absorption capabilities while the plant provides the fungus with carbohydrates formed from photosynthesis."

The photos on the internet for mycorrhizae fungus look just like this. So perhaps my soil isn't bad after all. I added peat moss, lots of pearlite, sand, vermiculite, pine mulch, bone meal, and a little lime. I'll add more lime for my Caribbean palms and less for the acid lovers. I hope this soil isn't bad. I will sample it with some other seedlings I have laying around to experiment.
