We had three small-ish royals planted about 2 months ago.  One of them is developing a crack.  Is this anything to be concerned about?  From what I've read these cracks can develop from over watering or overly fast growth.  I was watering these palms every day for a month followed by every other day the 2nd month per instruction.

Most of my Royals devellop 1-3 cracks at the base during the raining season in Nicargua. Although I water them daily during the dry season. Maybe it is because Royals grow quite fat at the base. But I never treated the cracks, and the all the Royals are healthy and thriving. I would not worry about this crack.

I agree with Masetapino; nothing to worry about so far.

Royals are great big water tanks with spongy interior and hard bark on the outside.

No worries there, mine does the same thing.

Lived in Cape Coral, Miami, Orlando and St. Petersburg Florida.

A 7 year old Royal with some strechmarks, and a C.macarthurii which looks worse, but has no real problems, thrives and produces a lot of seeds.

My queens do the same- especially the fast growers. No worse for wear...

Hot, dry summers. Cold, wet winters.
