I have heard of Washies getting up to three years in the ground in VA beach before dying, as for the P. dactylifera, with protection it can make it. Washies with protection can also make it through every winter.

Robusta can survive as long as you want them to, if you build protection around them.  There was one in MD north of DC that was there for a good 10-15 years. It got 20 feet tall.   The owner finally stopped protecting it because it was too big.  It died that winter.  Shame.

Washy's are planted around a good bit, but usually as seasonal or sometimes multi seasonal trees since some winters they can survive.

The Date palm, Im not sure what they do to keep it alive but that is an impressive size.

As for the Sabals, well, we all know they are common in Va Beach and there are many that last for decades on end.  Plenty there that have been there for 20 years and are still gong strong.

Nice finds. :greenthumb:
