Wireless satelllite internet service?

Is there any such thing?

I'm very disappointed in my present broadband and other services aren't available where I am.

If anyone has used wireless internet service, I'd appreciate sharing the experience.

thanks

Dave, check with all your cable/phone utility providers first, depending on who you have in your area, such as COX, Mediacom, Charter, Time Warner Cable/Spectrum, AT&T, Verizon, etc. You're not in a remote rural area so one of them should be able to provide you with Cable, Fiber, or DSL service over there.

Second-best choice would be to check if there are some WISP providers nearby that can put an antenna on your roof and connect you to a nearby hill/building that has a high-speed internet.

Third-best option is cellular internet (AT&T, Verizon, etc.), but you'll have to deal with limited data plans. They have "MiFi" devices that connect to cellular Internet and then provide you with a local WiFi access point. You may also be able to subscribe to and configure your cell phone to do the same thing, usually called "tethering".

Satellite internet should be considered as the last resort, as the latency is huge and data speed isn't that great, because the dish on your roof needs to push the signal to the satellite sitting at a geosynchronous orbit 22,236 miles up in space and then back down again. Plus you have limited data and it's expensive.

Thanks for the list.

So far, no go with Cos and ATT, I'll try the others. I have Verizon, and I've been warned about the horrors of Spectrum . . .

Frontier didn't appear for two service calls. (I've heard of them bailing on more.)

Spectrum did, so I'm with them.
