Editing the Archies - with care

Sometimes you really can have too much of a good thing, especially in the wrong place.

This is the crown of a magnificent A. tuckeri that was planted too close to my house. It was touching the eaves, and insurance people just get totally annoyed with that, to the point they'll yank your coverage. Plus, it was too tall to be good canopy anyway. And, it was better to do it now than when it got to be 60 feet tall.

The good news is that it's easy; I was able to cut the whole thing with a small handsaw. But, that crown is very heavy, about 250 pounds (113 Kilos), I estimate. Too heavy for me to lift. Good thing there was no car or idiot underneath . . . .

And, there are other Archies left, so they're in no danger of extinction.
