Do Good Bismarckia Seeds Float

Bizzies are that one thing that I just cannot seem to figure out. I grabbed around a hundred seeds from some trees while I was in Ft. Lauderdale last weekend. About a dozen of them seemed just perfectly ripe, but after being cleaned down to the bare nut, they still float when being soaked. Am I wasting my time again with trying to germinate these guys?

There are a number of fruiting trees in my area....... The ones I have germinated all sank when soaked.

A very small percentage of floaters will germinate.  Two years ago I had ~1000 seeds and took about 100 floaters out and put them in a separate germination bin to test them out. I did have a few that managed to germinate and grow into healthy plants, but not too many.

Leave em in water for up to a week, many will sink, throw the rest. HOWever, Hyphaene seeds will usually all float even when fresh and cleaned of fruit. But after about a week of soaking they will sink.

I had better clarify-- only a small percentage of cleaned seed soaked for 5 days in water that still floated germinated for me.

Thanks for the feedback! I was hoping to hear that this is one of those rare palms where floating seeds are not a concern. So far, out of the ones that I've cleaned the flesh off of, at least 2/3 are floating after 4 days in water, which isn't the best news. Luckily I grabbed about 200 seeds!
