musa ensete maurelii red banana

Palm crazy

Recommended Posts

I can’t believe my ensete maruelli banana is still alive. I cut back all the dead leaves and some of the trunk and found live growth. This winter low was 21F and I think the only reason it lived through this winter is that it was close to the house and in a large pot. Everytime I try to overwinter in the ground they always rot at the base on me. So the trick is to have it growing in a pot, LOL!

Wow that's crazy! I bet if you mound plant one for better drainage it will make it through the winter if the potted one did. Problem seems to be sitting in soggy soil during long cold spells will cause rot to set in.

Only problem with planting in ground is I have no more spaces, unless I plant right next to the house…now the wheels are turning again. lol.

You may all ready now this but ground level is usually colder than 3’ above ground. I think that’s why it survived.
